Attendance recognition and incentives
The law entitles every child of compulsory school age to an efficient full-time education. At Canklow Woods we aim to deliver our curriculum to fully engage all children and inspire curiosity, fun and a love of lifelong learning. We want our pupils to want to come to school because of what they are taught and experience.
Good attendance results in higher attainment, stronger friendships, healthy attachments with adults outside of the family home and cultural experiences which may not be always possible outside of school. It creates a sense of belonging and security and prepares them for their next steps in education. These are benefits which will have a life-long positive impact for our children and open opportunities for them throughout their time with us.
We recognise that there are some circumstances when children are unable to attend school and we aim to work with children and their families to support during these times.
We also want to celebrate and recognise pupils who do attend school regularly. We do this in the following ways
Weekly incentives
Attendopoly - Classes who have over 96% collective attendance win the chance for a spin on the board! Throw the giant dice and see which Canklow street they land on! Behind every square is a whole class reward!
100% raffle ticket. If children have been in school, on time every day of the week they will receive a raffle ticket. One winner is drawn from each class to pick a prize from the box.
Termly Incentives
At the end of each half term and term we have attendance celebration assemblies where children will receive a certificate to take home.
Annual Incentives
Children who have an attendance of over 97% will have an end of year celebration event. In July 2024 we took over 50 children to the cinema to watch Inside Out 2 in recognition of their excellent attendance.
