Modern Foreign Languages
At Canklow we currently teach the children Spanish in Key Stage Two.
The intention of the Spanish curriculum at Canklow Woods is that children are taught to develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We encourage children’s confidence and strive to stimulate their curiosity about language. We provide all KS2 pupils with an MFL curriculum which enables pupils to explore the cultural capital of another country through its language and traditions. We aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their Spanish learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.
At Canklow we also hope that learning another language will do a great deal to shape children’s ideas about language learning as well as giving them a new perspective on their own language and a better understanding of their own cultural capital.
